I found it on the internet.....

Sometimes we search the web for events and they end up really happening and in this case it was a blast!
As our readers know, our dog Otto is a mini long haired Dachshund. We had heard runors about something called DachshundFestival and so we looked it up. It turns out that it happens twice a year, in the Spring and then the Fall. Dachshund lovers and owners gather under the arch at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and meet and enjoy each others' dog and some even come in costume! So FourPaw was there with us and we had a great time. There must have been 250 dogs there, and that's the long and short of it (get it, that's a Dachshund joke) At at 1PM on the dot after they handed out song sheets, we all sang "The Dachshund Song"- yes there is even a song about our wonderfully built breed. Here are a few photos. In one of them you can see Otto in his Fourpaw outfit with his sausage link leash.

Then we decided to go out to lunch which you would think is impossible with a dog, BUT most places that have outdoor seating areas allow you to dine Al fresco with your canine companion at your feet. Most places will happily bring you a bowl of water for your dog. Check out www.bringfido.com for help in this area in any city. It was really a great day. When we got home, the dog was tired....maybe that's where that saying came from. He just went to sleep on the couch.

On Sunday we got to clown up in Mamarroneck NY at a Yeshiva/day School's Israel@65 Celebrationwith the organization Areyvut (www.areyvut.com) and Pupperdoodle and I made balloon animals, I juggled and we generally goofed around with the kids and their families. Great weather for an outdoor celebration.

A very busy clowning, celebration weekend. I think there were more dogs at Dachshundfest than the number of balloon dogs I made on Sunday (its my best one) 

Next weekend promises to be another busy one. On Saturday the Kitchen Goddess takes the team to the American Cancer Society Bark for Life Walk in Queens, then on Sunday I take the team to the city for the Bark for Life Walk in Manhattan.  Otto may sleep for the entire next week! So might the kids!

Dr. Molar Magic

It was a fun show....

So last Sunday I got to do the Dr. Molar Magic Show in Brooklyn (the Greatest place in the world) for OSTAR Early Childhood and Adult Day Center. This is a day program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. They are ALWAYS a happy and appreciative audience. I performed the show there last year and they asked if I would come back and do it again. I changed up the show a bit partly to keep it fresh and partly because I lost some of the show props due to water damage to our trailer where the show lives. (Since then I've fixed the leak with that spray on leak sealer from the infomercials.."but wait there's more" I called in the first 10 minutes and got a second can free!)
The show went well and the audience and staff learned about their teeth and clapped a lot after each trick. Then there were lots of photo requests with me so the whole audience came up in small groups as the teacher filled up the memory card on her camera.
Then it was lunch time, and since I was only 7 blocks away, I went to eat at the newly renovated and recently reopened Nathans on the Boardwalk at Coney Island. It was a gorgeous day with perfect weather to be there, oh how I wish I could just hang out and kill the day soaking up the sun and atmosphere. Check out these photos.

After a very satisfying lunch and walk around the boardwalk I headed home. Good show good lunch....life is good.

Who are you....really?

I was asked by a couple of people who read our blog to clarify who I am....sounds silly right, but its not.
People have asked me," you're a clown but are you really a dentist?" and "you're a dentist but are you really a clown?" So who is Bruce Lish, DDS? and who is Dr. Molar Magic
Well here's the story....
I've been a magician and clown since age 14, I'm now 43 (hey...that's not that old) and I've always wanted to follow in my father's path and become a dentist. So I was admitted to the New York University 7 year combined BA-DDS degree program. I graduated from New York University with a BA in biology and DDS degree.(that's Doctor of Dental Surgery)
I spent 2 years training at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, NY learning advanced oral surgery and implant dentistry to compliment my general dental skills. Throughout all of this I never stopped being a perfroming magician and clown. In fact Brookdale Hospital is where we do our clown rounds and our good dog foundation visits, among other projects, and I'm on the Dental Department Faculty and use their operating rooms for general anesthesia cases.
During the 3rd year of Dental school we were required to go to local elementary schools to do dental screenings as part of the pediatric dentistry training. It was then that I created the character of Dr. Molar Magic combining my career and love for oral health care with my passion for magic and clowning.
I've always combined the two to provide excellent care and educational performances for my patients and many organizations.
One of my performance experiences led me to the developmentally disabled populations and this later led to my involvement by providing dental care for these very special patients is all areas of dental need.
The Dr. Molar Magic Foundation was formed in 2005 and in 2009 we came up with Circus Bicuspid.
I'm proud to say I've won a number of awards for both dentistry and performance and through the years. I have enjoyed the "best of both worlds" by combining them whenever I can. My family and I live to perform for charitable causes. If you read the pages of this blog you will see the great work we've been privileged to do...hopefully making the world a bit better for it.

Another show in the bag......

Hello Blogosphere!
Last night Phineas and I performed again for the Society of American Magician's Parent Assembly #1's Grave site Restoration committee. The show was at Ken's Magic and Costume Shop in Fairlawn, NJ. These shows raise funds to help restore the burial sites of famous and not so famous magicians. A lot of these past stars are forgotten and their burial sites are in disrepair and need work. The committee under the direction of Richie Magic (Current President of the Assembly)  has made lots of great progress restoring the sites of a number of famous magicians buried in the NY tri-state area.
Phineas and I were sporting our new "non-makeup" costumes and I think we look pretty snazzy.

Its that time of year again, the annual American Cancer Society's Bark for Life Dog Walk in NYC.
Sunday May 5th in Riverside Park on the upper west side and once again we will be there in clown. Even Otto will be in his FourPaw costume walking to help the cause. In fact this year there is a bark for Life Walk in Queens, right near us the day before....So the Kitchen Goddess will lead Otto and the kids on the walk...that one will not be in clown (at this point) So if you have a dog PLEASE consider coming out to one of these great events. The dogs love the socialization and so do the people and could there be a better cause that this...If you are on our email list, you will be getting asked to donate to our team. We are not looking for big donations, just big participation! I'd rather have 100 people donate $5 than only 10 donate $50. this way we raise money AND awareness. Here is the link to donate
